The party was in full swing. Music filled the ballroom of Henson Towers, as guests mingled and discussed business and pleasure. The timing was perfect. Kermit could bask in the crowd's admiration of his win and announce JE's new position in the company. When his name was annouced, Kermit walked up to the stage to the cheers and applause of everyone in the room. He knew most of it was faked. About half the people in this room hated him for various reasons. But Kermit is a very powerful man in this city. so to refuse an invitation to one of his parties, would spell social ruin for the person that failed to attend. Along with the fact that you did not want to insult or anger Kermit. Those who were unaware of Kermit's other life, feared for their business or political future without Kemit. Those that knew about Kermit's other activities, feared for their life. But Kermit didnt care. As his late father used to say "It doesn't matter if they love you or hate you. As long as they obey and respect you. ". Kermit lived that to the T.

Kermit's speech was typical of the charasmatic businessman. Half truths, hidden meanings, clever lies, all in all, your typical public figure speech. JE's had no better of a reception than Kermit. The attendee's knew Kermit. JE was an unknown. To many, he was just some kid Kermit had taken under his wing. Most had already brushed JE off and went to the bar to refill their cocktails. Kermit closed his speech and ordered the band to play. Kermit pulled JE to the side.

"Enjoy yourself tonight. You earned it. But I will pick you up tomorrow at ten and show you your new office. So try not to...."
Kermit tossed a glance at Jess
"....stay up to late." He finished with a smile.

JE laughed it off.

"Sure thing Kermit. I'll turn in nice and early." He patted Kermit on the shoulder before returning to Jess and escorting her out to the floor.

Kermit watched them leave. JE was catching on quick. His teamwork in the ring, and in the pub confirmed for Kermit that this guy was a good choice. And here JE was, in suit of all things, chatting up the uppity ups of the area as if he was one of them. He learns very fast. And Jess. Always a rather attractive girl, but dolled up in a sleek black strapless dressthe seemed to the fit and hug her every curve...

"Kermit?" Said Gonzola witha tap on the shoulder.

Kermit broke out of his trance and turned away from the sight of Jess. Dumbasss. Never mix it Kermit. Keeps your eyes away.

"What is it Gonz?"

"Rowl is waiting for you."

"Good, I'll be right down."

Gonz turned to leave, but Kermit stopped him with a hand.

"And Gonz?"

"Yea?"

"Find out what dress that is she is wearing." Kermit said pointing to Jess. "And get one for Janice."

"Sure thing Kermit."

He turned in left.

I can do better.

----------------------------------

Rowlf tapped his fingers on the table waiting. He was good at waiting. In his line of work, you have to wait. Wait for the right moment and wait past the wrong ones. The door opened and Kermit walked in.

"You called for me?" Rowlf said

"Yes. I have a job for you." Kermit tossed a picture on the table.

"Who iz that?"

"David Frost. Father of Jack Frost. He lives in Providence Rhode Island, and I want you to find him."

Rowlf flashed an evil smile, which Kermit picked up on.

"No! Do not kill him. Do not touch him. Do not let him see you. But I want you to see him. Follow him until my match with Jack or I give you the word. I want an ace in the hole in case Jack decides to get tough all of a sudden."

Rowlf sighed, disappointed that he wasnt going after a hit. But Kermit always paid well no matter what the task, so this sounded like some easy money. He picked up the photo, nodded to Kermit, and left the room. Kermit smiled as he headed back to the party.

A few more aces up my sleeve, and Jack Frost won't know what hit him.

Kermit walked into his condo in Henson Towers jet lagged and grumpy. JE got himself into a mess with Duo and of course Kermit got the call. The flight over the pond, the time as back-up, and the flight back took their toll on the mob boss. He's never been able to sleep on a plane and never understood why. Must just be the way he ticks. But tonight, he was too tired to bother figuring out his in flight insomnia. All he wanted right now, was to collapse on his bed and drift off into a peaceful slumber.

Janice was reclining on the sofa in her pajamas watching some TV. She turned her head towards to Kermit as he staggered into the room.

"Babe! You're back. Like, how was trip?"

Kermit kissed her on the forehead.

"Very draining." He responded slowly.

"Did you get that girl back for JE? It would, like, suck if she's gone right?"

"She's fine Jan."

"So like what happened?"

"I will tell you tomorrow. Right now, I need to pass out. Keep the volume down please."

Kermit entered his bedroom and left his luggage on the floor. Unpacking would wait. Hell, taking off his clothes could wait. He fell, clothed and all, onto the bed and within a few seconds, Kermit was out like a light.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Kermit woke up late in the morning. He yawned streched out his arms in the dimly light room. Slowly, he rose and stepped out of his bed.

Now that, was a good night sleep. The kind that makes you feel refreshed and thankful to be alive.

After he went thru his morning rituals, he ordered some coffee and eggs to be sent up to his balcony along with a newspaper. As he threw back the curtains, he blinked a bit in the bright sunlight.

Bah......you never really get used to that.

Once his eyes adjusted, he stepped outside. The city was in full swing. The noise from the streets below wafted up to his high rise. People coming and going, running around on there errands. Taxis honking, which Kermit suspected was the only language known to all cab drivers. It was a loud and chaotic day. Just like normal.

Gonz entered the balcony carrying a tray with a manilla folder under his arm.

"Morning Kermit. How'd you sleep?"

Kermit smiled.

"Like the dead Gonz. So, I take it this morning I dont get a paper?"

Gonz chuckled a little as he set down the tray.

"Not today Kerm. I have some info on Frost."

Kermit took a sip of his coffee before taking the folder from Gonz. Inside contained various photos of Jack and David at different stages in life. Included, where newspaper clippings involving the two.

"Seems ole Jack has a proud history eh?"

Gonz nodded.

"His dad David was one of the best. A real old schooler."

"Then why the strife? Jack's done well here."

Gonz smiled a bit.

"Not well enough for his old man. The guy is basicly obsessed with his son's career. Verbally assualts him when he loses. Expects more from him when he wins. The old guy puts a lot of pressure on Jack."

"So Jack is either trying to show daddy up, or win daddys love huh?"

"That's what I think Kermit. Kinda like you and your dad really."

Kermit's features froze. His dad had been hard on him too, but Kermit knew why. You can't raise your future successor to be soft. No, he has to be strong and ready for anything. If it weren't for his father being so tough, Kermit might not have taken back the family business.

"That's different Gonz. Pops was rough because this business isn't a kind and gentl place. Only the strong survive here."

"And from what I've seen, the same goes for the TCW."

Kermit paused for a second, looking at Gonz, before cracking a smile with later turned into a full laugh. Gonz joined in and for a few moments, the two old friends shared the humor.

"Okay......okay. So, similar situations between Jack and myself. How does that help us?"

"Well, you know what he's going thru. Use it to your advantage if you can. Get inside his head. That's what I would do."

Kermit nodded.

"Good idea. But I want more than that. Call Dr. Teeth. Tell him to round up the Mayhem. I want them to stick near Kojack. Can't have Jackie Boy getting any help from his tag team partner now can I?"

"You got it Kerm. Enjoy your breakfast."

Gonz rose to leave and headed for the door. Kermit stayed on the balcony for awhile after eating.

Three Aces now. Once I get a fourth, this will be in the bag.
