 So what's your opinion
I'm getting a new pet to run about my property. They'll have hundreds of acres to run around on and will be safe from cars and such since the entire area is enclosed already. Permits aren't a problem since I'm on a first name basis with the Dept. Of Fisheries and WIldlife. I'm having a difficult time deciding which one, so I figured for shits and giggles, I'd ask you guys: Should I get a: Serval Or, should I get a: Caracal Both are roughly the same size, 3 feet long, give or take and both of comparable temperment. They would be bred in captivity so they will not be wild. So, which do you guys think is a better choice?

It makes me sad that I haven't heard of either of those. Normally, I'm against people getting animals like that, only cause they're under educated about it and tend to treat them horribly (God, I'm such a hippie) but Buddah's like the smartest guy I know and hell he works with animals SO, I say the caracal Just cause I like the tufts on its ears The above reason makes me one of those people who shouldn't have pets like this I'll stick with my parakeet thank you.

Heheh, yeah don't worry about the care of them. I'm getting whichever one of these I get from a person who rescues exotic pets from crappy homes. Both of the cats I'm looking at, the Caracal and The Serval, came from APARTMENTS in Boston. That's right. 3 foot cats stuck in apartments. Shit like that pisses me off. They'll have food, shelter, hundreds of acres with ponds, trees, and even a small bit of natural desert to play in... I definitely take care of my animals. And as for never hearing of them, don't think too badly, they aren't exactly the most common of wild cats. They are both bird-hunting cats from Africa. Servals live primarily in the savannah and scrublands, Caracals live in the desert and drier areas. SO ends your miniscule biology assignment!

Well, I officially have signed the papers to get a 3 year old female Caracal. She'll be delivered in about a week and a half. Most of you and Phoebe both decided that they liked the Caracal better. From what my friend told me, she's really well behaved, too and even is good with regular housecats and such so I won't have to worry about her taking after my other animals. In keeping with my tradition of naming my animals after mythological gods or goddesses, I've decided to name her Bast after the Egyptian cat goddess. Oh, and by the way, I don't have an alligator, I've got two dwarf crocodiles, about seven feet long.
