I don't know what the defamation laws are in the US, but you could definately sue somone over that and win in Australia and most of Europe.

Slander sure, you can sue for that here. Something I bet happens a lot but never gets news coverage by the news companies that probably are the ones getting sued. Was telling Rich that stuff like that happens all the time over here with any sort of news agency, but after its out in the court of public opinion, it doesn't really matter what you're settlement is.

Don't the rival news agencies jump on it though?
That's what happens here, I mean if I were editorial director at Fox News I'd be eating this up, showing the comparisons of the footage and everything.
As far as I knew it could have some pretty big impacts for agency as well. I know alot of those celebrity cases like Cruise suing over homosexuality rumours in tabloids have fucked up afew people, and then there's the backlash from corprate. Obviously it's not nearly as serious a subject, but the actual action was worse than what ended up screwing Rather, at least that was incidental.
