Fantasy author Robert Jordan (real name James Oliver Rigney, Jr.) was diagnosed with a terminal disease a while ago and I sporadically check his blog for updates. It occurred to me, as I went there today for the first time in over a month, that if he had died, there's no way I would have know. Well guess what? Turns out he passed away on the 16th of this month. I'm not sure if anyone else here is a fan of his Wheel of Time series (I think Magnus is...), but his work has been a big influence on me over the years. Darkness lost his hand shortly after the character of Rand Al'Thor did in the most recent book and there's a bunch of other ideas that I liberally stole from him. It sucks that I didn't even know this happened R.I.P. James Oliver Rigney, Jr. aka Robert Jordan. Your books made me a better writer. _________________ - lots and lots of short fiction, written by me, regularly updated. - it's a space opera novel I wrote. I have some shit on Kindle too: ,
