Nearly twenty-Five years after the dimensional collapse, the forces of evil make their first significant move. With the help of Professor Ivo and Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse unleashes an airborne virus that sweeps the globe. Most superbeings are unaffected, but 75% of the remaining human population dies. Apocalypse joins forces with Darkseid and Annihilus and they manage to push further north, taking Central America and portions of North America. Desperate to save what people are left, all humans remaining in North and Central America are evacuated to Canada and placed under the guardianship of Lord Thor, who swears an oath to protect them. Those heroes that did not die in the initial invasion remain in North America, fighting to stem the onslaught. Supergirl, a prisoner and test subject of Apocalypse for a decade, manages to escape. Her newly augmented powers help the heroes prevent the further spread of the opposing forces, but she is much darker than before after years of torture and experimentation. While Apocalypse leads the battle for North America, his offspring- a son named Armageddon assumes control over the Savage Land. The heroes and their descendants absolve their former territories and amass on the border with Mexico. Led by Orion after Highfather is killed, they operate in several groups, utilizing their skills and powers in the best way possible. There is little resistance as most superbeings are involved in the battle. As such, he is able to use his awesome powers to subvert the remaining to his will. Armageddon- New Lord of Antarctica Armageddon's Queen Dark Beast- Armageddon's Chief Scientist With the assistance of Dark Beast, Armageddon begins an extensive genetic cloning program, creating an army of mindless servants. Armageddon's powers ensure total control over their every action. He and Dark Beast clone hundreds of these beings, giving him one of the most powerful armies on the planet. He creates three different breeds of soldier: Destroyers, which are bred from various super-strong beings. Their strength is at Class-100. Male: Female: Vaporizers, which are beings capable of projecting powerful blasts of energy. They are capable of flight. Male: Female: Runners, bred from various tissue samples from speedsters. They are capable of travelling at near-light speeds. Superman, distraught by the death of Lois shortly after the dimensional collapse and the 25 year imprisonment of Supergirl, has become a much more ruthless individual. Still driven to protect the innocent, he no longer is afraid to do what is necessary. He eventually falls in love with Jean Grey and the pair have a child, Mara-el. Power Girl and the Human Torch also fall in love and have a child, Power Storm. Several other superheroes have children. Led by Powerstorm and his wife Mara-el, they form a powerful group. Driven to madness over the loss of his wife to the slave pits of Apocalypse, Reed Richards leaves Earth altogether, venturing into the cosmos to parts unknown. The loss of his intellect is a serious blow to the North American Forces.
